Georgian wine
Georgia is one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world. The valleys and slopes of the South Caucasus have been home to vine cultivation and wine production since Neolithic times, or at least 8000 years.
Although the region is rich in indigenous grape varieties, many are still unknown in the rest of the world. One Georgian grape variety that is, however, fast becoming established is Saperavi, a red grape capable of going through a very long ageing process.
Georgia represents the starting point in the relationship between man and vine, a history that still endures today and is stronger than ever.
