Lazio, the central Italian region, has a strong reputation based mainly, but not exclusively, on its white wines made mainly from Trebbiano, Malvasia di Candia and Malvasia puntinata grapes.
In addition to its whites, it also offers a selection of red wines made from Sangiovese, Cesanese, Montepulciano, Merlot and Nero buono di Cori varieties that are starting to make a name for themselves. Our list could go on and on since there are more than 200 different grape varieties in Lazio.
Like in many other Italian wine regions, Lazio’s wine-making heritage is ancient, as its first ‘vine dressers’ were the Etruscans.
