Lombardy is famous for being a land of great red wines, such as the ones made from Nebbiolo della Valtellina, here called Chiavennasca, but also for the sparkling wines of Franciacorta and Oltrepò Pavese.
For centuries, vines have also been cultivated on the shores of Lake Garda, an area that benefits from the moderating climatic effects of the lake.
The Valtellina, framed by the Central Alps, Franciacorta, whose vineyards grow on the hills south of Lake Iseo and, a little further south-east of the region, the low hills and plains, make Lombardy a region with a varied landscape.
