Sicily, once famous mainly for the passito di Pantelleria, and later for the fortified Marsala, can now boast an increasing number of quality dry wines.
A sunny, warm and dry climate combined to moderate rainfall make Sicily a region where mould and rot are kept to a minimum. This results in healthy grapes that are well suited for the production of natural wines.
In addition, the volcanic soils near Mount Etna give the wine characteristic scents and also help to contain the phylloxera louse.
Sicilian wines are as warm as their volcano and the sun that shines on the island.
