Elisa and Ruben are a couple who lives the wine in a profound way, with an authentic project that comes from the passion for local traditions in the province of Segovia, revisited in a modern and environmentally friendly way. In 2012 they were the pioneers in 2012 of crowdfunding to finance special limited-edition wine projects. In 2018 they will come out on the market with an ad hoc Rufete in this sense, deriving from the recovery of a vineyard in the Sierra de Francia. The project is called Uvas Nomadas and highlights the experimenting soul of the couple outside the home terroir.
Terroir: Cuellar, 60 km north of Segovia, has a fairly cold continental climate in winter and hot summers with an average height of around 900 meters above sea level. (The temperature changes are considerable). The area is characterized by pine forests around only 5.5 hectares of property cultivated in an uncertified organic regime and marked by limestone and sandy areas. Yields are quite low: 3,000 kg of grapes per hectare with an annual production of 10 to 12 thousand bottles.
The wines: the production is rather limited with the Tempranillo, Syrah and Garnacha (whose vineyard is 70 years old and is led to alberello) for the battery of red grapes and some white varieties such as Albillo Mayor, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, etc. Some wines come out completely declassified on the market with the word "vino" (once it was wine de mesa), others come out as Vino de Tierra de Castilla y Leon. All wines contain minimum quantities of added sulphites.
Malaparte produces a wonderful Syrah (Pico Lunar) that is very well adapted to the climatic conditions presenting a fleshy, peppery but also mineral side and always keeping the alcoholic strength in check. Turning to the whites often in this area are planted in mixed rows and without a pre-established order, as per old rural tradition. It“s almost impossible not to highlight Las Lomas Blanco 2016: an authentic field blend of Moscatel de Grano Menudo grapes, Albillo Mayor, Verdejo and Dulzar with a savory and delicious drink.
