Renaud Boyer

Renaud Boyer is a Burgundian winemaker who, since 2004, has been looking after around 3 hectares of family property in the Côte de Beaune. The small winery that belonged to his grandfather is located in Mersault, one of the key territories of classic Burgundy. He works the vineyards of his uncle, Thierry Guyot, a forerunner of organic farming who was already working biodynamically in 1986.

An upright and patient winemaker, Renaud has chosen the path that suits him best: without proclamations or concessions, he defines himself as an adept of natural viticulture and free winemaking, without sulphites. He produces wines that perfectly match the vintage. When, in 2017, the Appellation Commission did not like the atypical nature of his wines, in response Renaud changed the label of his Saint-Romain, a magnificent historic parcel, calling it ‘SR’ and thus bottling it as generic Burgundy. Today the wine is back in the AOC, too good even for the bureaucrats who had previously excluded it.
