Domaine Ballorin was born in 2005 from the idea and passion of Gilles Ballorin and his wife Fabienne, with a tiny plot of just 0.2 hectares in Chenôve. To date, the winery covers 6 hectares divided into 23 plots in Morey St Denis, Fixin, Marsannay and Nuit St Georges. The vineyard has always been farmed Biodynamically, and since 2008 Demeter certification has arrived.

Style and rigor, Gilles' belief.

The son of a railroad worker, with no estate vineyards or family tradition, moved only by an incredible passion, Gilles Ballorin founded his estate in 2005 after spending about ten years working for a number of “big” Burgundy estates (bottle count in hand), including a famous cooperative and a “negociànt” based in Mercurey.

Ideally, he adhered to the course he had planned: complete his viticulture studies, gain experience at one or more domaines in Cote d'Or, and in time, start his own project. His plans were accelerated when, he was offered the opportunity to purchase some vineyard.

The captivating character of his wines conveys the depth and mastery of his experience. Gilles and Fabienne make wine with a minimalist style, where they aim for the concrete without frills or stylistic digressions. The goal is to offer high quality wines, oriented towards the enhancement of Terroir. The choice to break free from the production of soft, blinkered wines, pursuing an impeccable method of work, which makes him relentless in his adherence to quality standards.

Gilles had a great teacher: Philippe Charlopin, himself, a protégé of the legendary Henri Jayer.
