100% Sangiovese sourced from a single plot that benefits from optimal sun exposure and constant ventilation—elements that guarantee complete phenolic ripeness and the perfect health of the clusters. John Benda’s touch enhances the verticality of the terroir, favoring gentle extractions and a wise use of large oak, capable of accompanying the wine’s evolution while preserving its varietal identity.

The entry on the palate is dynamic and enveloping. The tannic texture is dense and polished, like silk, giving the sip an aristocratic progression. The vibrant acidity supports the entire structure, projecting the wine toward a persistent, savory, and extremely clean finish.

John Benda’s Brunello 2021 possesses impressive longevity, promising a fascinating evolution over the coming decades. It is a wine that celebrates contemporary elegance, perfect for pairing with haute cuisine, noble meats, and aged cheeses, while always maintaining a central focus on freshness and drinkability.

From the producer

J G Benda

A new face for one of Italy's most important wine hills, Montalcino. He is John Benda, an English mother who grew up in Rome and lived many years in London, where his great passion for wine was born.

The winery, consisting of 2 hectares of vineyards surrounded by 16 hectares of estate woodland, is run together with his Australian partner Zoe Johnson. The vineyards are located between 520 and 550 meters above sea level below the Lume Spento pass in the direction of Tavarnelle. Surrounded by woods the 2 vineyards are born on different rock formations. The first vineyard, planted in 2006, is characterized by stone-stone based soils, dating back to the geological period of the Upper Cretaceous, with alternating gray marl: in these soils the presence of sand exceeds 60% bringing great elegance to the wines.

The second vineyard is older, planted in the 1990s on a rock formation dating back to the Paleocene period, where the soil has outcrops of quartzose-feldspathic siltstones and Galestro, all supported by a high presence of limestone.
