Producer: La Castellada
Pinot Grigio 2018 Collio DOC
Oslavia, Gorizia
Undoubtedly one of the most intense and exciting Pinot Grigio in all of Collio. The first thing that is surprising is the color, an intense garnet that certifies a good maceration on skins. The long aging before release is necessary to smooth out the various roughness given by the terroir.
The "Ponca" in fact, the typical rock of Collio, determines in the wine great aromatic concentrations, an important sapid note and evident tannins. Characteristics that after vinification must learn to coexist together in the search for a balance that can only be found with time.
After this path of "growth," the wine becomes sunny and extrovert in indulging in the glass. Finer fruity and mineral notes blend with darker spicy and slightly smoky notes. A serious, textured wine with great taste impact.
La Castellada
Giuseppe Bensa and the origin of La Castellada
It was 1954 when Giuseppe Bensa returned to Oslavia after his period of emigration to Switzerland. With the money he earned he bought a vineyard and a small house that he turned into a tavern. In time, the proceeds from the business allowed him to buy more vineyards, so that by the end of the 1970s the estate covered 10 hectares of land.
Giorgio and Nicolò, Giuseppe's sons began at that time to follow the cellar and farm work, until they chose in 1985 to start bottling their own wine, sold before then only in bulk. Thus the farm "La Castellada" was born, where the traditional Collio Friulano wine has always been produced. Wines of great finesse and intensity, able to mature over time, children of a unique terroir.
