Wild Land
The estate was officially founded in 1999 when there was still no trend for indigenous wines and practically no natural wine movement, the grapes grown were from the beginning: Ansonaco and other red varieties such as Sangiovese, Grenache, Canaiolo Nero and Aleatico. At high altura there is a strong focus on wines from red grapes, Francesco tells with great passion that already in 1595 in Andrea Bacci's book "Natural History of Wines" Giglio is mentioned as an area that produces better reds than whites.
Francesco's young vines, are cultivated using the alberello system, terraced on steep slopes that fall sheer to the sea and are immersed in the unspoiled nature of the island, here nothing can be mechanized even if one wanted to, the work is all manual.
Agricoltura "creativa"
At Giglio it is not sensible to follow scholastic rules, each soil has a mysterious balance to be understood first and preserved later, this conviction Francesco matured also thanks to an agronomist friend from the Chianti Classico area who arrived on the Island and admitted with great humility, "I can't tell you anything here, because it is such a special territory that I don't know where to put my hands!" Hence the right approach: reading the territory with experience and trial and error.
The soil on which they grow is sandy and rich in skeleton with the presence of some boulders and rocks that favors the root development of the plants, which are bush-trained with the trunk in trellis instead of vertical, the workings are environmentally friendly and the substances allowed in the vineyard are only manure and minimal doses of sulfur.
Hence the right approach: reading the territory with experience and experiments.
