Tenuta Fornace is the result of the dream of Andrea Rossi and his family, who were already growing grapes in Oltrepo' Pavese in the early 1800s. The goal is to be able to produce each variety in the place most suited to it.
Tenuta Fornace today has an area of more than 80 hectares that are cultivated with passion in full respect of natural balances. The vineyards are located in different viticultural areas of Oltrepò Pavese and Piedmont allowing for diversified processing that respects the tradition of the territory.
“From the beginning we have chosen to conduct our vineyards by reducing interventions to a minimum and following what today are the rules dictated by the regulations of organic and biodynamic agriculture, even before these were established.” Andrea Rossi
The growing method
A clear agricultural vision translates into concrete actions that we find perfectly explained in andrea's words, “We do not fertilize by choice and we do not irrigate the vineyards. Thanks to sustainable and, above all, regenerative farming we maintain excellent soil fertility due to the continuous regeneration of the grass and wood produced by the vineyard, this helps us to cope with such proving times of drought .
We do not use any treatment in the vineyard that would disturb its natural balance. Walking between the rows you will always find a spontaneous grass meadow where the wild grasses attract an infinite number of different insect species, which are essential to keep this ecosystem alive at all times in a totally natural and spontaneous way.”
From the study of the vines and soils, the need for winery “zoning” has emerged over time: each grape finds its home in the vineyard with the soil best suited to it, that is, with the pedoclimatic conditions for best for each variety. This is true Quality research!
