Antichi Vigneti Manca

"Li Sureddi"...a family.
Alessia and Noemi are the two sisters who manage the Antichi Vigneti Manca winery; united by a visceral passion for the vineyard and the territory, they cultivate the dream of making wines "that tell about us, about Romangia, about the nature that overlooks everything."
A small production from northeastern Sardinia, pure wines with a Mediterranean character, able to excite by telling a Sardinia made of warmth and elegance.
Badde Pira
Six hectares of old bush-trained vines, with yields hovering around 20 to 30 quintals of grapes per hectare for a derisory production that barely reaches 8,000 bottles a year. The area is Romangia, wedged between Porto Torres and Castelsardo in northeastern Sardinia; here the sea and the constant mistral wind create unique conditions for the grapes. In particular we are in the Badde Pira "cru" the valley of the pear trees, here old sapling vines take root on limestone matrix soil, rich in white marl and once submerged by the sea.
Only traditional indigenous varieties are produced to make the most of the ancient genetic heritage in the vineyard, for example Retagliadu Nieddu, a local clone of Cannonau that has good productivity, with very small bunches that force many cuts to be made on each individual plant (hence the name). Alessia says that to fill a box of grapes sometimes as many as 10 plants are harvested!
Then a particular big-berry Vermentino is grown, the almost forgotten Sardinian grape Girò Bianco in addition to Moscato and Pascale.
The tasting tells us of identity wines, capable of telling the story of a territory and vintage with great elegance and character.
