Les Grangeons de l'Albarine
Luc Bauer is the Owner of the winery located in the Bugey area in the Coteau d'Argis. 2.5 hectares from which they produce wines that express their terroir with great clarity and precision. The vines are all at altitude and the soils are chalk-rich rock wall disintegrations. Almost all of the cuvées are an expression of a single variety in a particular parcel within the vineyard; only recently has he begun experimenting with blends for some of the reds.
Biodynamics is the philosophy that guides his agricultural choices, as he firmly believes it is "a method based on empirical evidence, involving all living organisms in a given environment and the energies they exert on each other."
Hard and meticulous work
Grapes are harvested by hand in several passes for each parcel. The white varieties are slowly whole cluster crushed and transferred to old Demi-Muids used for both vinification and aging. For the reds, whole cluster vinification is preferred, the proportion of which to the whole mass depends on the vintage and variety with the goal of producing wines that are exuberant and ready even in their youth, when in contrast, whites are made for aging.
