Slavcek Specialities: Orange wine

The history of Slavcek farm begins in 1769 the year it was founded. Still owned by the Vodopivec family today it is Frank together with his wife Alenka and two sons Andrej and Tomaz who manage the farm.

After his grandfather's death in the late 1970s Franc set out to find himself, Slavcek's fields lying fallow and the winery half-empty. It was his meeting with Alenka that turned him around: together they decided to restore the family farm, giving continuity to a tradition of more than two hundred years and relying on an environmentally friendly system of work.

"The choice to go organic came in 1995. We follow nature, observe it and let it do its own thing. Playing the most important part in the countryside is not us, but the land, water, air and sun. We see organic not as an agricultural choice, but as a philosophy of life. This means that we are not only organic when we grow vines and fruit trees or when we raise livestock, but in every moment of the same day: in every choice, idea and decision ... organic is the only way forward, the only perspective for the future."

10 hectares of vineyards in the Vipava valley, along with peach orchards and animal farming, to return to the original idea of a polycultural farm.

"The Vipavska is a valley of about 40 kilometers that follows the course of the river. It is an ideal area for viticulture because this land is sun-kissed and beaten by winds

In addition to special climatic conditions, the plants can rely on a soil particularly rich in mineral elements "the soils of this valley are the result of a stratification of marls that is called Opoka, or Flysch in case there is the presence of sandstone. Vipavska marls are called Lapor and are dry, crumbly and very rich in trace elements, which are responsible for the flavor of all our wines."
