Podere Sante Marie - Marino Colleoni Specialities: Red wine

Marino Colleoni settled in Montalcino only in 2000, the year of the winery's first harvest, but his partner Luisa bought the house and land in 1989. Only five years later did they discover that vine branches and bunches of grapes were sprouting from the woods, which enabled them to realize what for them was only a dream, to produce wine: after preparing the land respecting the centuries-old terraces held up by dry-stone walls, they planted Sangiovese Grosso, from whose juice they obtained the first Brunello, which they began to market only after five years of aging, in 2005.

The company bought other plots of land in Sant'Antimo, particularly olive groves for the production of extra virgin olive oil. Currently, after a patient work of manual recovery, a consequence of the company's choice to preserve the ancient crop varieties present, the olive grove is' slowly recovering its original vigor producing olives of excellent quality.

Brunellos of great depth

The farm's size is 3 hectares of vineyard and about 2.5 hectares of olive grove. The method of production is strictly Organic, but the goal is to go further, and arrive at reconstructing within the crops a natural biological diversity such as to make the life of the soil and plants increasingly independent of human will and its interventions. Even in the cellar, full respect for tradition and spontaneous fermentations give a Brunello of strong character and personality, direct and never pandering, but sincere and enveloping, like the character of those who make it. Never the same, it reflects the merits and flaws of each vintage, giving its best after years of aging.
