Principiano Ferdinando Specialities: Red wine

"Indulging the vines with gestures and attention, complicity and transport is a necessity that involves my whole family to restore the character of our land to Barbera, Barolo, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, which are the instantaneous fruit of our actions and our instinctive inclination." Ferdinando Principiano

Ferdinando began making wine as a young 20-year-old in 1993, and without any experience he followed the idea of wine making in vogue in the 1990s, a conventional approach, allowing the use of some products in the vineyard and cellar. As Ferdinando gains awareness he puts in place his evolution, which also began thanks to his inability to tolerate some products used in the vineyard and later also some adjuvants used in the cellar. We are in 2003 and Ferdinando implements the first changes that will lead to a final "liberation" of the vines in 2006 finally able to express themselves.

A fundamental change for the farm

It took ten years for this change to be totally absorbed by the plants and for them to be totally reinvigorated. For this transition Ferdinando, although he has a degree in oenology, has studied a great deal and spent a lot of time researching the history of the place, which is fundamental if one wants to talk about terroir wine. The winery consists of about 23 hectares located between Monforte and Serralunga, plus a small vineyard in Alta Langa. The vineyard in Monforte is located southeast of the Barolo area where the vines reach 300m above sea level, on steep terrain bordered by woods and streams. Ferdinando accompanies the vineyard and the wine to the winery, with manual processing, crushing with the feet, only fermentation with indigenous yeasts for sincere and tasty wines that respect the terroir.
