Pierre Morey is universally known among the best "white winemakers" of the Cote D'Or, for that delicate and precise hand of his that succeeds in making each individual parcel clearly express itself in the wines he offers.

The Morey family has been stable in Mersault since 1793 and has been involved in viticulture ever since, an important transition occurring in 1935 when Pierre's father became a sharecropper at the legendary Domaine des Comtes Lafon. To get to the dawn of Domaine Pierre Morey as we know it today, we have to get to 1971 when Pierre took over from his father and acquired the rights to lease the vineyards.

Pierre makes another important and formative experience, starting in 1988 he becomes cellar manager and vineyard manager of Domaine Laflaive.

'91 would then mark his adherence to organic farming and his approach to biodynamic practices, initially through the use of only preparations in the vineyard and then finally completing the conversion in 1997.

Domaine Pierre Morey insite on 9 hectares of vineyards cultivated between the communes of Pommard, Monthelie, Puligny-Montrachet and Mersault. 

The vines since 1992 have been increasingly cultivated following the dictates of Biodynamic agriculture. "When we started with Biodynamics, the vineyards were completely transformed" the important choice towards natural practices in the field came from Pierre's great powers of observation, who had noticed that in the vineyards in the early 1990s the mythical Burgundian snails were no longer present, the use of chemical preparations was beginning to show its devastating effect on nature.

"The change of pace, brought first to our vineyards and then to those of Leflaive, made me find the answers I was looking for. And after a while the snails came back, too."

Today, flanking Pierre in the management of the domaine are his daughter Anne and his son Jean Victor, "Pierre embodies experience and is fortunate to have been able to build over time a comprehensive vision about the vineyards of the Cote de Beaune. And this proves to be more and more essential for understanding the differences and peculiarities of each of our plots."
