Carlo Viglione & Figli

Bussia, Monforte d'Alba, Cuneo
We are in Bussia Sottana in the background is the Langa landscape, more specifically that of Monforte d'Alba. The foreground is on Giulio Viglione, a figure who represents the typical winemaker of the area. From parents who were also winemakers, Giulio grew up among the rows of vines and learned care and dedication of them. The winery was founded in 1915, shortly after the start of World War I, by his grandfather Giuseppe, who initially grew grapes for sale. Later in 1964 they began winemaking to obtain their own production.
The Year 2020: The Epilogue
Even the best stories, however, come to an end. "I made my last vintage in 2020," says Julius, "I had a following behind me I would still want to, but there is no one, I have no children, I'm not even married, and what do I do? I'm 75 years old, I've done 60 vintages in my life; actually more, because I started when I was 8 years old!" From the vineyard to the bottling, everything has been conducted in a family and traditional way. Giulio has always cultivated almost 4 hectares of vineyard with the utmost respect for nature. In fact, no chemical intervention takes place in the vineyard, except for a few treatments with sulfur and copper, only manual harvesting and fermentations activated thanks to the yeasts present on the plant, and then finishing the whole process in large oak barrels.
The wines, great classics of the area, are Barolo, Dolcetto and Barbera: all of great drinkability and sincerity, accompanied by the finesse typical of the area, with a production of about 10-12,000 bottles a year.
