Nika Bakhia is an eclectic and in many ways brilliant character: an artist, architect, sculptor and only later a winemaker, he has always made the pursuit of beauty his reason for living.
His farm is based in Ananga, in the Kakheti region of Georgia, in those valleys of the eastern area where viticulture has the breath of centuries and the art of long macerations in amphora reign supreme. Nika's great passion for wine led him in 2006 to found the winery of the same name, becoming a neighbor of Soliko Tsaishvili of the “Our Wine” winery, another important Georgian winery, with which he shares the main Tsarapi and Akhoebi crus and now cultivates 6-7 hectares with the main native Georgian grapes: Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Tavkveri, Khikhvi and Mstvane.
The Vine and Winemaking
In his great respect for the environment, Nika decides not to treat his vines with any chemical additives and to use only human energy and horse power. His, in addition to being a productive choice, is a self-affirmation: he decides to make wine in order to be fully responsible for his land, using his name as a spokesperson for production without artifice.
In winemaking Nika draws heavily from Georgian tradition; with a very elegant and light hand he manages to give harmonious wines from a young age. Wine also takes on aesthetic significance for Nika, just as it does for his sculptures or canvases, the winery becomes an all-around artistic workshop.
The wines are literally the fruit of all-family work where many of the labels are in fact formed by the proper names of family members such as Nika Saperavi, Dato Noha, tarie Luna and many others.
