Cascina Roccalini Specialities: Red wine

Cascina Roccalini is the dream of Paolo Veglio, a dream that was born in the heart of the Langhe, in the locality of Roccalini in Barbaresco. It was 2003 when Paolo, who had just graduated as an oenologist, decided to invest in the future of the family vineyards, those same grapes that until that moment were destined for the winery of Bruno Giacosa, one of the most famous negociant of the area, known for his ability to select only the best production areas.

Today, Cascina Roccalini's vineyards extend over 9 hectares, 4 of which will come into production in two years, for an annual production of about 25,000 bottles, divided between Barbaresco DOCG and Langhe Nebbiolo. Wines that, despite their variety, share the same complexity, elegance and depth. They are authentic expressions of the Barbaresco Langa, wines that tell the story and the territory with a precision and harmony that only time and love for the land can bestow.

The praise of tradition

The vineyards are located on those typical white Langa soils, rich in marl and limestone, perfect for Nebbiolo, the symbolic vine of these lands. Here, cultivation is scrupulous and respectful of nature: no herbicides or chemicals, just a constant commitment to the health of the vineyard and soil. In the winery, respect for tradition translates into slow fermentations, without the addition of additives, thanks to the natural yeasts that the grapes carry. Vinification takes place in steel and cement, using the traditional submerged cap method-a process that, for Barbaresco, takes about 60 days. Aging takes place in large, high-quality 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels made by Italian artisans. Each wine is bottled without filtration or clarification, after a long maturation that, in the case of Barbaresco, takes place after as many as 24 months in wood, arriving in the bottle in the fourth year following the harvest.

Since 2010, the Roccalini cru has received official recognition as an additional geographical mention in the production regulations, a tangible sign of the quality and identity of this corner of the Langhe, which Paolo Veglio has decided to enhance with passion and dedication.
