Domaine de la Touraize Specialities: Orange wine

In the heart of the Jura, in Arbois, Domaine de La Touraize traces its roots back eight generations of winemakers. The history of the Morin family begins in 1704, when André-Jean's great-great-grandfather Etienne Morin was already a winemaker. Due to war-related difficulties, André-Jean's grandfather was forced to part with the family vineyards. It was his father Michel who rebuilt the domaine, starting with the only remaining vineyard, “La Touraize”, and slowly buying up the land that had been sold, thus restoring life and continuity to the family tradition.

In 1985, André-Jean joined his father in wine production, expanding the vineyard to its current 12 hectares. A pivotal step in the domaine's history occurred in 2009, when he decided to stop conferring grapes to the local cooperative, finally taking wine-making into his own hands. A gesture that marks the beginning of a path of total independence and personal vision.

The wines of Domaine de La Touraize are distinguished by their drinkability and finesse, but they are also strongly defined by the terroir that generated them. Each bottle is a tale, a tribute to the history, tradition and passion that has animated this family of winemakers for centuries.

The historic vineyards real treasure of the domaine

The vineyards of Domaine de La Touraize are located on the historic terroirs of Arbois, including Les Corvées, Curoulet, Sur la Côte and La Touraize. These soils are cultivated with the five grape varieties typical of the area: Poulsard, Trousseau, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Savagnin, which produce wines rich in personality and depth.

For André-Jean, a good wine is born first and foremost in the field. It is with this philosophy that he tends his vineyards, monitoring them with care and respect. The oldest plants are over 80 years old and are treated with natural methods, using only sulfur and copper to protect the health of the vineyard.

In the winery, André-Jean follows an equally rigorous approach. Fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts, without any external input, to preserve the authenticity and complexity of the fruit. Fermentations, slow and regular, take place mainly in steel, to maintain the wines' freshness and finesse. Each type completes its aging in oak, cement or even amphora containers, depending on the characteristics that are to be enhanced.
