Chateau Musar

In 1930, Gaston Hochar founded Chateau Musar, inspired by the 6,000-year-old Lebanese winemaking tradition and his travels to Bordeaux. Gaston's eldest son, Serge Hochar, became Chateau Musar's winemaker in 1959 and spent 18 years perfecting the winemaking technique for Chateau Musar's fantastic wines. Today, Serge's sons Gaston and Marc, along with their cousins Ronald and Ralph, continue his legacy and manage the day-to-day operations together with longtime winemaker and winemaker Tarek Sakr.

Chateau Musar's vineyards are located in Kefraya and Aana, both in the Bekka Valley, as well as at a new site in Mehrine. The winery is located in Ghazir, about 25 km north of Beirut. This area is particularly suited to quality viticulture with an average of 300 days of sunshine and an interesting rainfall with amounts never less than 100 cm per year. The presence of the Mediterranean ensures constant sea breezes that mitigate the microclimate. As well as the presence of 2 mountain ranges ensure a fair amount of thermal excursion especially in the warmer months. The soil is predominantly gravelly with a limestone base. The age of the vines varies from 5 to 130 years. There are all the right ingredients for the production of spectacular wines with great aging potential.
