Jintaro Yura

Gueberschwihr, Alsace
Jintaro Yura, 38, originally from Tokyo, already has more than 10 years of experience in French vineyards. Since his first winemaking on his own with a Pinot Blanc in 2020, he has attracted the attention of enthusiasts and professionals alike for his exceptional purity and peculiar balance in the glass.
Jintaro is an eclectic and profound character, a nuanced figure exactly like the wines he creates. Born and raised in the bustling environment of Tokyo in a prominent restaurant family he absorbed the cultural humus of French food and wine arts from an early age. Young Yura's journey into wine is a tale of passion, dedication, and exploration. After a brilliant academic background in oenology and microbiology, his journey in wine takes him from the verdant landscapes of New Zealand alongside Takahiro Koyama to the historic Grand Crus of Alsace that he considers of primary interest even in the face of Burgundy because of their unparalleled and heterogeneous geological and mesoclimatic specificity.
Here he decided to put down roots and after various experiences landed at Domaine Gross where he began his project in 2020.
Purity and stylistic precision, Jintaro's beliefs
Thanks to his university in Japan, Jintaro gained a deep understanding of the microbiological aspects of winemaking; his curious attitude and empirical precision led to the birth of a very personal style that was well defined from the very first wine.
Thus was born in 2020 Domaine Jintaro Yura. The approach of the young Japanese vigneron is at once scientific, natural and intuitive with an almost obsessive focus on the search for purity of fruit. A great emphasis is also placed on the “tactile texture” of the acidities; these are wines of important texture and persistence, with a clear territorial identity.
In winemaking Jintaro uses three types of containers: cement, oak and steel, alternating their use according to parcellar masses and vintage characteristics. Peculiar in this sense are the expressive results obtained in the vinification of Pinot Noir, which offers great depth and stylistic originality. Jintaro Yura, following various steps, has gradually eliminated the use of sulfur in vinification to leave the wine with all its expressive purity. Let us enjoy it today before the establishment of the legend makes everything tremendously complicated.
