The SEB Project was born in 2018 within the Balaj Winery, the first Albanian winery featured on Rollingwine. Artan, Daniela and Vincenzo's dream is to bring the territory and characteristics of Albania's splendid indigenous grape varieties, varieties with a very long history and tradition, back into the glass.
The vineyards are located in the hills of Valona at an altitude of 80 to 250 metres above sea level and are 1 to 4.5 kilometres from the sea. They therefore benefit from the positive influence of the Adriatic, with the grapes ripening gradually thanks to the mitigating effect of the sea.
In the vineyards, work is essential and carried out mostly by hand; there is no emergency irrigation. The type of training system is espalier and bush-trained. The treatments carried out in the vineyard are at most 2 per year and not aimed at prevention.
A "new" territory with a long tradition
In the area of Vlora, in the south of Albania, the climate is temperate with large temperature ranges between day and night. The vineyards are located in an area bordered by the Voiussa River (national park) and the Bay of Vlora with its salt pans.
The soil is alluvial from a periadriatic depression, sandy and pebbly. Rainfall is scarce throughout the year.
Production takes place at KantinaBalaj, which is housed in a tunnel built in the 1920s,
allows a constant temperature of 12 °C to be maintained inside all year round.
