Producer
Nerina Cardile

Solicchiata, Catania
Nerina Cardile is a young Sicilian producer with DNA and an Etnean heart. Hers is the classic story of someone who radically changes her life, driven by courage and lightness. A psychologist with a specialisation in psychotherapy from the University of Padua who, after working in this field for several years, in 2018 chose to heed the call of her land, what she likes to call ‘my Etna’, and return home.
Nerina Cardile was born and grew up in Solicchiata, a small and charming hamlet of Castiglione di Sicilia located over 700 metres above sea level on the slopes of Mount Etna, known worldwide for its wine production. She has always been connected to this winemaking tradition and has always wanted to take part in it herself.
The beginnings and the vision
In 2019, she took her first steps in the "Il vino di Anna" winery, alongside Anna Martens and Eric Narioo, and it was here that she first vinified a small batch of her own grapes from the land of her parents, her masters in life and in the vineyard.
These old vines are located on the north side of the mountain and Nerina cultivates them with great respect and love for the land, taking care to make targeted decisions according to the vintage and the climatic changes that are also affecting this wine-growing area. A project in progress made up for now of only two wines, a white made from indigenous grapes and a red from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes. A limited number of bottles produced for elegant, drinkable wines made with spontaneous fermentation, without filtering or clarification.
