Muraje

Carema, Torino
Muraje embodies the dream of Federico Santini and his wife Deborah, a couple who transformed their passion for the "Great North" of Piedmont into a dazzling winemaking reality. Located on the northernmost edge of the province of Turin, the winery cultivates the legend of Picotendro Nebbiolo within a morainic amphitheater unique in the world.
The name itself pays tribute to the muraje—the imposing dry-stone walls that support the vineyards and reflect solar heat back toward the clusters. This project was born from a steely determination to reclaim small, historic plots, often abandoned, to restore dignity to a terroir where viticulture is an act of pure courage and architectural beauty.
Craftsmanship as a Trademark
The production approach embraces a high-profile artisanal philosophy, ensuring wines of extreme clarity and expressive depth. The vines are rooted in the granitic and sandy soils typical of the Carema district, cultivated using the traditional topia system (the local pergola supported by the famous stone pilun).
In the cellar, Federico works with impeccable technical sensitivity: fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and aging in both small and large wood barrels always respects the vibrant acidity and silky tannic texture of the grape. Choosing a bottle of Muraje means savoring the essence of a vertical mountain, captured in a dynamic, elegant sip with overwhelming minerality.
