Joan Ramòn Escoda Martìnez after working as a winemaker in a large winery in Catalonia and traveling through wine France came to the conclusion that the only way to feel free was to make wine naturally. So in 1999 he started a project in his wife's village of Prenafeta near the medieval village of Montblanc, in Conca de Barberà, and in 2005 began making wines without added sulfites, a method that continues to this day. He and his friend Laureano Serres founded PVN, the first natural wine association in Spain.
Agricultural management and the winery
Joan Ramon's agricultural philosophy is based on a very simple concept: to defend at all costs the life in the soil, which is of crucial importance in every agricultural process, and to provide in every vineyard the vegetal cover, which allows a soil rich in humus and microorganisms; which make their vines very resistant to weather and disease.
In the winery, too, the winemaking philosophy follows the inescapable obligation to respect the fruit as much as possible, through the use of indigenous yeasts for fermentation, without carrying out any filtration, clarification or stabilization of the wine.
"Currently, since the 2005 vintage, we have been producing without added sulfites. This is why we call our wines "natural wines from organic farming."
For winemaking and aging we use "Padilla" amphorae that fix an incredible minerality in the wines, in vibrates and externals, all the strength of the Mediterranean.
