Producer: Domaine Les 4 Vents
Crozes-Hermitages Saint Jaimes 2019
Mercurol, Crozes-Hermitage, Cote du Rhone
Crozes Hermitage Saint-Jaimes comes from the domaine's best parcel from vines over 40 years old. Spontaneous whole cluster fermentation for a good part, maceration lasts 30 days. After fermentation, the wine is aged for one year in used 600-liter barrels. It is bottled without clarification or filtration.
The 2019 vintage is beautiful with notes of ripe fruits such as strawberries, cassis and blackberries, as well as a hint of licorice. The palate is very concentrated, opulent and powerful with very well integrated tannins. An intense Crozes Hermitage, which on tasting makes it superior to many Hermitages, only in theory deeper.
Domaine Les 4 Vents
Domaine les 4 Vents is located in Mercurol in the middle of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation owned by Lucie Fourel and her sister Nancy.
Lucie is a young "vigneronne," who took over 3.5 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage from her parents in 2006 with the idea of producing wines from the family's vineyards with a novel label. In 2013, her sister, Nancy, decided to join the winery and this is where the name "Domaine les 4 Vents" was born.
In 2015, another 6.5 hectares were added, bringing the estate to its current size of 10 hectares. Before returning to the family estate, Lucie spent several years at other wineries in the Rhone Valley, during which she developed her philosophy and learned the right practices for organic and biodynamic farming, as well as for natural winemaking.
Lucie does not use sulfur dioxide during the winemaking process and only adds a minimal dose just before bottling. The wines are fermented using only indigenous yeasts.
