Producer: Domaine Marc Roy
Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur 2020
Gevrey-Chambertin, Bourgogne
The Clos Prieur is a plot with 60-year-old plants just below the grand cru of Mazis-Chambertin in the village of Gevrey. It expresses itself with black fruit that precedes a refined palate, very taut, with firm but not harsh tannins. A muscular wine with an admirable structure and crisp, savoury fruit.
Another demonstration that Alexandrine Roy villages are often far above many Premier Cru wines that do not reach this level of concentration and complexity.
Domaine Marc Roy
Domaine Marc Roy is a small, family-run 4-hectare estate in the village of Gevrey Chambertin, one of the most prestigious areas of the Cote de Nuits.
The Roy family has been farming here for 4 generations and has been bottling its own production since 1982. In 2003, Marc's daughter Alexandrine took over the winery with the intention of raising the bar even higher. Gradually, she reduced the yields in search of better concentration. The vineyards are cultivated organically, with great attention to detail.
In the Domaine, vinification is traditional with the utmost attention to the expression of the different terroirs and vintages. Each cuvée is matured in French oak barrels for at least eleven months, taking care not to overwhelm the purity of the fruit or terroir.
Through minimal intervention and extraction, Alexandrine allows its old vines to express themselves with immense depth of flavour and clarity.
