Domaine Marc Roy Specialities: Red wine

Domaine Marc Roy is a small, family-run 4-hectare estate in the village of Gevrey Chambertin, one of the most prestigious areas of the Cote de Nuits.

The Roy family has been farming here for 4 generations and has been bottling its own production since 1982. In 2003, Marc's daughter Alexandrine took over the winery with the intention of raising the bar even higher. Gradually, she reduced the yields in search of better concentration. The vineyards are cultivated organically, with great attention to detail.

In the Domaine, vinification is traditional with the utmost attention to the expression of the different terroirs and vintages. Each cuvée is matured in French oak barrels for at least eleven months, taking care not to overwhelm the purity of the fruit or terroir.

Through minimal intervention and extraction, Alexandrine allows its old vines to express themselves with immense depth of flavour and clarity.

The parcels of domaine

The Domaine consists of 3.5 ha of Pinot Noir for four different cuvées and approximately 0.5 ha of Chardonnay cultivated in the village of Marsannay from the 'Le Champs perdrix' parcel.

The cuvée 'Vielles Vignes' is obtained from the oldest vines on the estate, which are on average 70 years old. The cuvée 'La Justice' - named after the climat that Alexandrine bought in 2010 - only produced its first vintage in 2011. La Justice is located in the north-eastern part of Gevrey-Chambertin. The cuvée 'Clos Prieur' comes from another small block, located below the prestigious Grand Cru vineyards of Mazis-Chambertin.

The most recent vintages of La Justice and Clos Prieur are made in such an exceptional way that most wine critics consider them to be of a Premier Cru standard.
