Le Due Terre

Prepotto, Udine
We are located in Prepotto in the province of Udine, the farm "Le Due Terre" is Founded by Flavio Basilicata and Silvana Forte in 1984. At the beginning the vineyards were rented for a total of 2 hectares, while the winery was obtained from the renovation of the old farm belonging to the Basilicata family. Today the cultivated hectares cone about 5 of which 3 are owned.
Flavio, an oenologist and winemaker, has from the beginning, together with his wife, tried to recover and maintain the knowledge of the past, the agricultural and winery techniques in fact are strongly linked to the Friulian farming tradition. In the cellar one can still find barrels dating back a hundred years, which still do their work perfectly.
In the field, only copper and sulfur are used in minimal quantities, biodynamic preparations and organic management, although no certification to that effect has ever been required. No mowing, no fertilization; the vines develop in complete balance, benefiting from an unspoiled environment, the nearby forest and a microclimate mitigated by the presence of the Judrio stream on the valley floor.

Two different types of soil
Only traditional grapes are grown on the farm such as: Ribolla, Friulano, Schioppettino, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The vineyards are placed in two distinct areas: a hillside, with wood-belted plots, very windy and with minimal yields, and the valley floor, with more orderly vines, and a higher yield.
The real difference between the hillside vines and the valley floor vines is the type of soil (also highlighted in the company logo), clayey and rich that of the valley floor, karst of clear marl origin that of the hillside.
Marl consists of a flaky stone that gives the soil excellent draining power, which is essential during periods of high humidity.
