Nikolas Juretic Specialities: Orange wine

Nikolas has been in the world of wine for many years: he was born into a family of winemakers, then his studies in oenology followed by various experiences in different wineries, and finally his collaboration with Simonit & Sirch, which led him to deepen his knowledge of vine breeding throughout Europe and the world.

In 2018, he started his own production, with his family's grapes: he settled in a winery close to home, in Cormons in Collio Friulano, where he uses the grapes that were previously sold, to produce fantastic wines with traditional and artisanal methods. He can rely on the help of his parents, Elena and Robert, to run the vineyards, while cellar choices and operations are entirely up to him. The plots are located in Cormons in the "cru" of Montona, Pradis and Bosc di Sot.

The Vineyard and the Farm's Surrounding Environment

The approximately 2 hectares of vineyard consist of plants more than 50 years old, and are conducted respecting the principles of organic farming and permaculture. Mainly indigenous varieties are present: Tocai Friulano, Malvasia Istriana, Ribolla Gialla, Picolit, and a small part of Pinot Bianco, and in the vineyards in San Floriano, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay.

The training method is the traditional double upside-down Guyot. The density of vines per hectare is very low, between 2,500 and 3,500 vines, and the plants grow freely during the summer: the foliage is not topped and all the leaves are retained to protect the clusters from the sun. Grass is rarely cut to allow wild grasses to produce seeds and promote the diversity of plants and insects in the vineyards. All plots are near or bordered by forest, which promotes the diversity of plant and animal species present.
