Chateau de Beru

Berù, Chablis
The beautiful Château de Bèru is located in the village of the same name, in the heart of Chablis, which has always been a perfect land for the cultivation of Chardonnay, the climate and history attest. The de Béru family has owned the historic domaine since 1627. At Château de Beru, vines have always been cultivated as the main source of income until the phylloxera epidemic of the 20th century: from that moment on, the vineyard was abandoned until 1987, when Count Éric de Béru replanted the entire vineyard in the historic family plots, a choice made both to safeguard the history of the place, where vines had been cultivated since the 1200s, and because of his great passion for wine. In this great work of recovery, Éric also restored the famous "Clos Béru," a legendary vineyard bordered by the centuries-old dry stone wall built by Benedictine monks in the 1300s to demarcate an area particularly suited for high-quality production.
From father to daughter
Since 2006 at the helm of the winery is Éric's daughter, Athénaïs, who together with Antoine, manages the Château and its 15 hectares of vines. With great care, the two are committed to working the land and vines in a respectful way, adopting the principles of organic and biodynamic farming (Ecocert and Demeter certification). Theirs is a choice in continuous evolution and research, including in the collaboration with some very faithful local growers, from which they obtain healthy grapes and truly interesting wines, children of the knowledge handed down from their father and the experience gained over many years in the winery: all grapes are hand-picked, fermentation is spontaneous with natural yeasts, without chemistry, and no addition of sugar or filtration. The results are wines that are precise and balanced, rich in flavor thanks to the terroir, deep and incisive: a piece of Chablis history that testifies well to the terroir of origin.
