The Rebirth of Passerina: The Vision of Zappasodi and Torquati

In 2020, amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alessio Zappasodi, the mythological host of Rimessa Barrio, alongside his friend Francesco Torquati, an entrepreneur in the organic food sector, embarked on the Vigne Cave adventure. Convinced that the Passerina grape variety still held immense untapped potential, they began searching for abandoned vineyards of this varietal in the region.

Their quest led them to Col di Tenda, not far from Grottammare, where they discovered suitable land. They leased just under three hectares, divided into three distinct parcels: 1.2 hectares dedicated to Passerina, with the remaining 0.7 hectares each planted with Sangiovese and Montepulciano. This unique property, formerly a gravel quarry, offers breathtaking sea views and benefits from its invigorating breezes.

This project represents the realization of their dream: to produce an authentic, agricultural wine that truly embodies the essence and history of this extraordinary land.

Production Philosophy: Respect for Nature and Tradition

In the vineyard, our approach is limited to using only copper and sulfur, ensuring minimal and environmentally respectful intervention. Similarly, in the cellar, we exclusively favor spontaneous fermentations, gently guiding the grapes without forcing their natural transformation into wine.

These natural methods, which rediscover ancient traditions, allow us to obtain "no-frills" wines—an authentic expression of the territory. Every glass reflects a distinctive balance between minerality and salinity, satisfying both mind and body and offering an experience that celebrates the true essence of the place.
