Champagne Tarlant

Champagne Tarlant is the epitome of family tradition and innovation, with a history rooted in 1687, when Pierre Tarlant began cultivating the first vineyards in the Aisne region, later establishing the family stronghold in Œuilly, within the Vallée de la Marne. Today, the twelfth generation, led by Benoît Tarlant, manages 14 hectares across approximately 57 different plots, firmly committing to a pure and radical winemaking style. Tarlant’s philosophy is centered on the utmost respect for the terroir, adopting viticultural practices that combine principles of sustainable and biodynamic farming. They minimize human intervention to allow the complexity of the soils—chalk, sand, and limestone—to truly shine. This meticulous care in the vineyard translates into grapes of the highest quality, which are essential to achieving their primary objective.
The Pure Expression of the Vallée de la Marne
Tarlant's unmistakable signature lies in its preference for Brut Nature (Zero Dosage) Champagnes, a style that demands perfectly ripe grapes and uncompromising winemaking. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation largely takes place in oak barrels, and malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve the wine's freshness and minerality. The extended aging on the lees (often 5–6 years) naturally balances the lack of added sugar, creating complex, taut, and vibrant bubbles. A further unique feature is the use in some cuvées of forgotten, ancient grape varieties (such as Petit Meslier, Arbanne, and Pinot Blanc), which, together with the classic Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier, complete the profile of a Maison that isn't afraid to break the rules in the name of the most authentic expression of its territory.
