Barolo, Cuneo
A Rediscovered Heritage and a New Dawn
Cristina Marello Prandi, born in 1998, embodies the paradox of being the latest heir to a historic dynasty and, simultaneously, the founder of a completely new project. Her family has deep roots in Barolo dating back to 1864, but after decades of male-led management and a 36-year production silence, the Prandi name had nearly vanished from wine labels. Thanks to the mentorship of her uncle Giuseppe—the silent guardian of the family’s vineyards and traditions—Cristina absorbed a profound respect for the land and the art of listening to nature. However, hers is not a simple succession; it is a rebirth. With a determination that turns obstacles into motivation, the young producer has reclaimed her destiny, investing in a new winery in La Morra to give voice to a heritage that was simply waiting to be revealed.
Interpreting Nebbiolo: Between Character and the Future
Cristina’s winemaking journey unfolds across the prestigious plots of Paiagallo and Bricco Cogni, where her tenacious energy takes liquid form. Her debut with the 2019 vintage has already revealed a profound and distinctive style, capable of honoring the nobility of Nebbiolo with bold confidence. While upcoming releases scheduled for 2023 and 2024 will pay tribute to her uncle Giuseppe, the true anticipation is building for 2027, the year her first Barolo Paiagallo will make its entrance. Cristina is writing an entirely new chapter for the appellation, painting a picture with a steady hand where the historical memory of the Langa hills blends with a modern, vibrant, and deeply personal entrepreneurial vision.
