Producer: Casina di Burchio
Lavernae 2020 Toscana IGT
Bibbiena, Arezzo
This Syrah boasts incredible potential, offering beautiful spice and ripe yet still crisp fruit. There's a slight bitterness on the finish that cleanses the palate and invites another sip, with a subtle hint of wood on the close. The texture is almost creamy but remarkably smooth.
The color is still vibrant: a transparent ruby with intense purple reflections. It's rich in citrus notes with incredible tannins that give it great length. This wine has truly found its unique harmony.
The region here demands long aging; the clay soil and cool climate have created a wine that is both muscular and sharp, needing time to express itself fully. The wine is now at peak maturity and ready to be eagerly enjoyed.
For the 2020 vintage, 3126 bottles were produced.
Casina di Burchio
Casina di Burchio is a small winery located in the Casentino area, in the province of Arezzo. More precisely, it's in Bibbiena, in a valley west of the town. There's a single 1.5-hectare vineyard with a north-south exposure on clay soil with a high mineral content.
The project is led by two very young individuals: Francesca, who has a degree in agricultural sciences, and her partner Filippo, who also comes from the agricultural world with his family's business. Together, they have breathed new life into the Casina di Burchio project, which began thanks to Franco, Francesca's father, who bought the farm in 1992 and created the vineyard with Syrah and Viognier.
The choice of grape varietals stemmed from Franco's great passion for the wines of the Rhône Valley. This choice quickly proved to be spot-on for the profound and characterful expressions of the wines from this area.
With only 3,000 bottles produced in total each year, it's a tiny project, but one of the highest quality!
