Producer: Casina di Burchio
La Dogana 2024 Toscana IGT
Bibbiena, Arezzo
This is a 100% Viognier from the Tuscan hinterland, specifically the Casentino area.
It's a very good wine, the result of careful selection in the vineyard, offering great freshness and structure. On the palate, it has significant body, made smooth by an incessant drinkability.
Despite only a few months of aging, the wine is already mature with notes of white peach, orange, and white flowers. It finishes with a balsamic note reminiscent of mint.
It presents a good balance between softness and acidity, with a great, persistent finish. It's enjoyable on its own and spectacular paired with fresh or medium-aged cheeses.
For the '24 vintage, production is very limited, with approximately 530 bottles.
Casina di Burchio
Casina di Burchio is a small winery located in the Casentino area, in the province of Arezzo. More precisely, it's in Bibbiena, in a valley west of the town. There's a single 1.5-hectare vineyard with a north-south exposure on clay soil with a high mineral content.
The project is led by two very young individuals: Francesca, who has a degree in agricultural sciences, and her partner Filippo, who also comes from the agricultural world with his family's business. Together, they have breathed new life into the Casina di Burchio project, which began thanks to Franco, Francesca's father, who bought the farm in 1992 and created the vineyard with Syrah and Viognier.
The choice of grape varietals stemmed from Franco's great passion for the wines of the Rhône Valley. This choice quickly proved to be spot-on for the profound and characterful expressions of the wines from this area.
With only 3,000 bottles produced in total each year, it's a tiny project, but one of the highest quality!
