Muetto is a bright and vividly colored, semi-aromatic red wine with aromas of rose, cherry, but also peach, acacia and more.

It seems to know the climate of Val Borbera to perfection; in fact, the grapes ripen early, around mid-September, and sprout late, almost two weeks later than other grape varieties.

Perfect characteristics for agriculture in the Apennines, where late frosts are frequent and temperatures in September can drop as low as ten degrees. It has the characteristics of a useful wine in our area, fun, generous, simple but never ordinary.

Growing Muetto was illegal!

Absurd isn't it? In Val Borbera since time immemorial and it could not be cultivated!
In 2018, the working group formed by Maurizio and Martina, Stefano, Andrea Tacchella of Nebraie, and Pietro Ravazzolo of Cascina Barbàn decided to try to undertake the registration process.
"Stefano explains that it is a long and expensive operation, it takes more than five thousand euros and the process can take up to three years.
So we talked to some friends and acquaintances who gravitate around the world of wine, especially Tommaso from Rolling Wine, and we came up with the idea of launching a crowdfunding effort to help us raise the money we need to register the variety.
We wanted to make this operation popular, by everyone, a process born by the people, of the people and for the people.
After all, a variety show is a public good and it is sacrosanct that this venture be public, by all and for all."

The crowdfunding campaign for the registration of Muetto went well, instead of six thousand euros more than thirteen thousand came in thanks to wide local and national popular participation.
Thanks to this money, the guys were able to undertake the registration process, and organize some informational events about the path undertaken for the rediscovery of this variety.
To date, there are about 1.5 ha of Muetto vines planted by Cascina Barbàn in the country in two phases, from 2018 onward.
Other farmers outside and inside Val Borbera are organizing to plant Muetto.
