Verduzzo 2020 Venezia Giulia IGT
Farra d'Isonzo, Gorizia
Verduzzo Friulano has been cited as one of the most representative and typical varieties of Friulian origin since the mid-1800s. Once very widespread, today much less so, especially in the version offered by Fulvio Bressan, i.e. the strictly dry version, in keeping with the purest tradition.
Harvested late to allow the tannin to mature well. In fact, despite being a white variety, the amount of tannin present on the skin and in the berry is truly remarkable.
In addition to the tannin, Verduzzo has a very important aromatic spectrum that makes tasting it an exhilarating experience: elegant in body, deep yellow in colour with amber hues, it has rich aromas of flowers and ripe fruit with artemisia, apple, peach-nut and apricot. Left in the glass, it changes as the minutes go by, offering ever-changing emotions. In the mouth it is dry and savoury, with notes of almond and herbs on the finish.
Bressan
The Bressan winery was founded in 1726 in Farra D'Isonzo and is now run by Fulvio, who represents the ninth generation of winemakers, proud defenders of the local winemaking tradition.
There are 24 hectares under cultivation, spread between DOC Isonzo and DOC Collio, and in the most generous vintages the number of bottles produced reaches 40,000, for a production per hectare that almost never exceeds 25 quintals/ha.
The soils are mixed, although they have one characteristic in common: the presence of ponca in each vineyard, a stratification of calcareous marl and arenaree typical of these areas. Another important characteristic is the presence of iron in some of the vineyards, a peculiarity that makes the soils particularly suitable for growing red grapes.
