Caprera Specialities: White wine

Caprera was founded in 2012 in Pietranico, in the Pescara hinterland, halfway between the Maiella and Gran Sasso mountains. Today, it's a 22-hectare organic farm spread across two distinct plots, close to each other but profoundly different in nature. Only a small portion of this land is dedicated to vineyards. There's also extensive woodland, about 500 olive trees, and arable fields where local wheat varieties are cultivated, in addition to an apiary and a pond that hosts diverse wildlife.

"For us, diversity is wealth. The farm is an agricultural organism whose parts coexist in harmony, each serving the other. Only in complexity can equilibrium be found. Only in equilibrium can a healthy environment for the well-being of plants, animals, and humans be achieved."

Farming Practices

Organic farming is a must-have, but it's only the first step.

You see, "organic" can sometimes just mean swapping one type of pesticide for another. But true organic farming demands a radical shift in perspective from the farmer: a vineyard isn't just a production site; it's a complex ecosystem embedded in a larger environment.

Over centuries, human actions have caused rapid changes and imbalances within ecosystems. At Caprera, we rely on study and observation, then act with the primary goal of helping life grow and multiply in the small patch of land we tend.

Our objectives are clear: to enrich soil vitality, encourage the establishment of beneficial insects and microorganisms, and increase the ecological diversity of the environment. We aim to keep the energy of the place within the place itself as much as possible.

This is an ambitious program that the team puts into practice by reusing organic farm waste, distributing biodynamic preparations, microorganisms, and other self-produced concoctions. They plant medicinal herbs and hedges, limit soil tillage, sow cover crop mixes, and treat each plot of land specifically based on its characteristics and condition.

The ultimate goal is to cultivate healthy plants that live in harmony with their surroundings and best express their intimate essence through their fruits.
