A Family Story
The story of Istine is a blend of tradition and entrepreneurial spirit. Its roots lie in the Fronti family's passion for the land.
It all began in 1959 when Bruno Fronti founded a company providing agricultural services. After years of experience in the winemaking world, the family decided to cultivate their own vineyards. In 1982, the first plots of land were acquired, and today the winery manages about 20 hectares, spread across Radda in Chianti and Gaiole in Chianti. This "mosaic" style of cultivation, with separate parcels, gives each plot of land its own unique identity.
For a long time, the grapes were sold to other wineries, but the desire to tell their own story led to a change. With the 2009 vintage, the winery bottled its first wine, marking the beginning of a new era with its own label.
The Vineyards and Wines from Single "Crus"
The estate's vineyards are not a single, continuous block, but rather distinct parcels, each with its own unique characteristics. What they have in common are their high altitude and a predominantly rocky soil, composed of Galestro and Alberese. This combination is ideal for bringing out the best qualities of Chianti's Sangiovese.
Freshness, elegance, minerality, and harmony are the key words that best describe this extraordinary grape. Starting with the 2012 vintage, an ambitious project was launched: to vinify the Sangiovese separately, based on the specific vineyard of origin. This method allows the winery to create wines that uniquely reflect the specific exposure, soil, and altitude of each plot.
Through its wines, the winery tells the unique story of its three main vineyards: Vigna Istine (between Radda and Castellina), Vigna Casanova dell’Aia (near Radda), and finally, Vigna Cavarchione (in Vertine, Gaiole in Chianti).
