The "Viti di Sante" project was born from Andrea Polidoro's desire to recover the old vineyards that once belonged to his grandfather, Sante. These vineyards feature historic plants—some between 50 and 150 years old—cultivated using the ancient "viti maritate" (married vines) system, where the vines are supported by field maple trees.

This wine is the very reason Andrea decided to embark on this beautiful journey, which could be defined as "Archaeo-enology": an effort to uncover the true expression of the Gualdo terroir, located at the foot and on the slopes of the Sibillini Mountains, through the use of ancient vines.

As with his other labels, this is a field blend of different grapes grown and harvested together, including native varieties such as Trebbiano, Malvasia Bianca, Santa Maria, Verdicchio, and Maceratino.

A straight, tense, and highly refreshing wine. Citric acidity takes center stage, making for an agile and sapid (savory) palate. It offers elegant aromas with notes of aromatic herbs and white flowers, alongside a marked minerality derived from the calcareous sand and silt soils.

Roots and Rebirth in the Sibillini Mountains

Nestled within the Sibillini Mountains, Contrada Contro is the visionary project of Andrea Polidoro. After honing his expertise in the prestigious regions of Bordeaux and Montalcino, the winemaker returned to his Marche roots to breathe new life into ancient vineyards. His mission centers on restoring ungrafted vines and heirloom varieties—such as Trebbiano and Verdicchio—grown in sandy, silty soils. By embracing organic principles and honoring natural cycles, he has turned traditional heritage into a bold expression of modern viticulture.
