Rediscovering Aligoté!

Antoine Lienhardt’s Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 is tangible proof of how this grape variety, historically considered "minor," is experiencing a true rebirth in the hands of enlightened winemakers. A variety that yields wines that are still accessible, perfect for discovering contemporary Burgundian drinking. Antoine does not treat Aligoté as an entry-level wine; instead, he adopts the same care he has for his great Pinot Noirs from the Côte de Nuits.

The 2023 vintage offered generous fruit balanced by a formidable acidic drive, resulting in a white wine entirely focused on mouth-watering tension, light years away from the thin and neutral Aligotés of the past.

Upon tasting, it is a breath of fresh air: notes of lemon zest, crunchy green apple, and white flowers blend with a chalky and flinty nuance that underscores its territorial soul. On the palate, the attack is dynamic and sharp; Aligoté’s distinct acidity is presented here with a pulpy ripeness that fills the palate without ever tiring it. The finish is dry, almost saline, leaving a very pleasant sensation of aromatic cleanliness.

From the producer

Antoine Lienhardt

Domaine Antoine Lienhardt, situated in the heart of Comblanchien within the prestigious Côte de Nuits, represents the contemporary evolution of a family legacy dating back to the 19th century. Antoine, a fourth-generation winemaker, took over the estate in 2011 after gaining diverse and significant experience in Chablis, Chambolle-Musigny, and South Africa, driven by the ambitious goal of elevating Comblanchien’s terroirs to the status they deserve. Joined in 2017 by his sister Héloïse, he has turned the domaine’s wines into a benchmark for those seeking extraordinary verticality and purity, honoring the old vines planted by his grandfather Maurice with a dedication that blends respect for heritage with a pioneering vision for the future of viticulture in Burgundy.
