Carema, Torino
First wine from the Melfa brothers, first wine from Sopravvento. Of this project we were struck above all by the story from which it was born (you can find it on the producer page), as for "Changes" the tasting left us in no doubt, we are faced with a glass that returns a faithful and sober expression of the place.
On the nose, hints of mimosa and chamomile stand out with notes of hay to complete the herbaceous part. Then it increases in volume with a balsamic stretch of resin and a pulpy, ripe apricot that we also find in the mouth. Taut and rightly tannic, it is a sip that satisfies for structure but also essentiality.
Highly recommended
Wine and music, two passions that talk to each other
It all began with an intuition Michele had while in London in 2013 to visit an exhibition dedicated to the great artist and composer David Bowie. A sommelier by profession, Michele distinctly senses a desire for change ("Changes" will be the name of the first wine of sopravvento, a tribute to the great Bowie), an idea that comes like a flash and that he manages to put into practice in 2019, when the project materializes.
Michele, Matteo with the fundamental contribution of their father Oreste create Sopravvento, in a unique and rugged terrotorio like that of Carema. Where working the soil involves a continuous struggle with the mountain, the work is hard and exclusively manual, where the environmental context is still wild and pure, life here is omnipresent and the "natural" choice the only one sought.
"Although tradition is the high road to follow, a look to the future was necessary for the optimization of work in the vineyard."
Tradition and innovation are the two pillars on which the winery revolves, always with a logic of respect and consistency.
