The Soul of a Territory: Casina di Cornia

The company's story began in 1979 when Antoine Luginbühl and his wife Francine, driven by a deep love for this area of Chianti, decided to restore an old farmhouse and plant the first Sangiovese vineyards. From the very first vintages, their production philosophy was organic, placing nature and the ecosystem's balance at the center of their work. This was a personal choice and a constant commitment they never flaunted, convinced that the wines themselves should do the talking.

Since 2011, their sons Anselmo and Julien have taken up the challenge of continuing their parents' work, sharing their vision and constantly pushing the boundaries. Their goal is clear: to minimize their environmental impact to maximize the authentic expression of the terroir and the winery's identity. Continuous research, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, is the key to achieving new milestones. The winery is constantly dedicated to studying increasingly sustainable techniques for controlling plant diseases and to customizing the vinification processes to best enhance the unique characteristics of each individual vineyard.

Wines with an Unequivocal Identity

The estate covers 24 hectares, with 7.5 of them dedicated to vineyards. The parcels, located at about 250 meters above sea level and facing south-southwest, are rooted in clay-limestone soil. This deep soil is the key to creating wines with great structure and complexity.

Since 1996, Casina di Cornia has eliminated the use of copper to combat downy mildew, replacing it with a clay-based mixture. Balanced pruning, careful vineyard management, and the use of indigenous yeasts are all key elements that help produce rich and complex wines without altering their natural expression.

In the cellar, this handcrafted care continues with the utmost attention. The use of sulfites is kept to a minimum, and the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand to ensure the integrity of every single bunch of grapes.

The pursuit of quality is a continuous process aimed at enhancing the unique characteristics of the grapes and the distinctiveness of each vintage, avoiding any corrections or blends. The undisputed star is Sangiovese, a grape chosen for its ability to best express the soul of Chianti Classico.
