Les Feux Du Ciel 2023
Tournon-sur-Rhône, valle del Doux
"Les Feux Du Ciel" (The Fires of Heaven) is a Syrah of pure energy from the Ardèche in the Northern Rhône. Étienne Seignovert is a master at transferring the full power of the terroir into the bottle. The grapes come from vines with an average age of 45 years, grown on granite soils and exposed rocks at an altitude of about 500 meters, an ideal pedoclimatic context to bestow this Syrah with a distinct minerality.
The vinification uses whole bunches in small open vats and a brief maceration of about 7–10 days. This minimalist approach guarantees controlled extraction, focusing on freshness rather than excessive concentration. The wine is aged in used oak barrels for a variable period up to 18 months.
This is a vertical Syrah. On the nose, it is concentrated, gourmand, and spicy, with notes of dark forest berries, black pepper, smoky hints, and a surprising balsamic freshness. On the palate, it is structured yet agile, with a crisp sensation derived from the whole-bunch vinification and fine tannins that integrate perfectly. The vivacity and energy of the fruit make it a juicy and profound red, ideal to drink young after some aeration, but with excellent aging potential.
Etienne Seignovert
Etienne Seignovert, a winemaker in the Northern Rhône Valley about 20km west of Tain l’Hermitage, released his first vintage in 2020. After a tour of France to study first in Beaune and then in Montpellier, he decided to gain experience by working at various domaines before returning to the family property in Saint Barthélémy le Plain.
This area of the Doux Valley is particularly suited to viticulture, and he aims to create thoughtful wines that express freshness and delicacy. The goal is to establish a polyculture farm with an agroforestry structure, in full respect of biodiversity, with only one idea at the heart of the activity: the wine.
