Anno Domini 1441 marks the year the majestic Castello Tricerchi was completed, a landmark that still dominates Montalcino’s northern slope today. This label represents the estate's flagship, a hand-selected wine produced in extremely limited quantities—between 2,000 and 2,500 bottles—reserved only for the finest vintages that truly capture the nobility of Sangiovese Grosso.

The 2020 'AD 1441' is born from the most prestigious parcels of Vigna del Castello and Vigna del Velo. Here, the limestone clay and sandy soils force the roots to dig deep, gifting the wine a distinct mineral signature and extraordinary longevity.

The tasting is a complex journey. It begins with crunchy notes of Marasca cherry and red fruits, eventually revealing the classic scents of high-altitude Sangiovese: blood orange, forest floor, chocolate, and sweet tobacco. A balsamic vein and dried flowers emerge on the finish.

On the palate, it surprises with an extraordinary balance of power and grace. The entry is enveloping, supported by remarkably fine, silky tannins. The vertical drive provided by the acidity makes each sip deep and effortless, closing with a saline and graphite finish that seems to linger forever.

Castello Tricerchi

A Historic Stronghold on the Northern Slope

Castello Tricerchi, a majestic fortress completed in 1441 by the Tricerchi family, overlooks the northern slope of Montalcino and stands today as a benchmark for those seeking elegance and freshness.

Under the leadership of Tommaso Squarcia, the estate has embarked on a journey to enhance its 13 hectares of Sangiovese vineyards, all farmed organically. The geographical location is crucial: situated at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, the vineyards benefit from cooler temperatures and clay-limestone soils. These conditions result in wines characterized by a natural acidic tension and a distinctive aromatic finesse, a departure from the warmer opulence found on the southern slopes.
