The 2020 Brunello from Castello Tricerchi stands as the most iconic wine in the Squarcia family’s production. Sourced from vineyards at the foot of the 14th-century castle on Montalcino’s northern slope, this geographic position benefits from constant ventilation and significant diurnal temperature shifts. These factors preserve the freshness of the Sangiovese Grosso, yielding wines of great finesse and expressiveness while avoiding excessive over-ripening.

Grapes are exclusively selected from the estate’s most prized vineyards, situated at an altitude of approximately 300 meters above sea level. The soils, composed of clay and galestro, bestow a solid structure and a distinct mineral character upon the wine.

Upon tasting, the palate is immediately struck by the wine’s remarkable balance between power and grace. The entry is austere yet enveloping, supported by a dense, silky, and seamlessly integrated tannic weave. The acidity—characteristic of the northern slope—provides a 'vertical push' that makes each sip deep and incredibly persistent, leading to a sapid finish with hints of graphite.

Castello Tricerchi

A Historic Stronghold on the Northern Slope

Castello Tricerchi, a majestic fortress completed in 1441 by the Tricerchi family, overlooks the northern slope of Montalcino and stands today as a benchmark for those seeking elegance and freshness.

Under the leadership of Tommaso Squarcia, the estate has embarked on a journey to enhance its 13 hectares of Sangiovese vineyards, all farmed organically. The geographical location is crucial: situated at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, the vineyards benefit from cooler temperatures and clay-limestone soils. These conditions result in wines characterized by a natural acidic tension and a distinctive aromatic finesse, a departure from the warmer opulence found on the southern slopes.
