This is a Sangiovese naturally re-fermented in the bottle. It undergoes very brief contact with the skins—as the grapes are direct-pressed—just long enough to give the wine an antique pink, or rather orange hue that is truly sexy!

The "base" wine is crafted through a double harvest: one early pick to ensure vibrant acidity, and a second at full ripeness for body and aromatics.

The grapes undergo spontaneous and separate fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Once fermentation is complete, the two bases are blended and left to rest in steel until May, when must from the same vintage is added to kickstart the re-fermentation.

The 2022 vintage was hot and dry, which gifted the wine very expressive fruit, perfectly balanced by the freshness typical of this region.

Matrignano

Just outside the city of Arezzo, yet already immersed in the rural landscape of the eastern foothills, the Matrignano winery—now led with great courage and determination by Bianca and Giacomo—has successfully evolved. It has transformed from a family heritage once anchored in traditional practices, such as selling grapes or bulk wine to large-scale bottlers, into a producer that is steadily making its mark on the vast Tuscan artisanal wine scene.

Founded in 1969 and boldly relaunched by the new generation in 2017, the winery has retired industrial protocols in favor of an uncompromising natural philosophy. Here, wine is not "manufactured"; it is accompanied. With six hectares of historic vineyards (some dating back to the 1960s) farmed organically, the family preserves a heritage of indigenous grape varieties—Sangiovese, Colorino, and Canaiolo—that thrive on southwest-facing slopes.

It is a return to roots that feels like the future, where respect for the land is a visceral vocation evident in every vine, every pruning, and the agricultural protocol that we had the pleasure of discovering alongside the team directly in their vineyards.
